Story behind the song
After I joined the band World Affair with my friend, Chuck Smith, we started brainstorming original music ideas. Chuck had pre-existing music already written, so I shared with him some of the lyrics I started writing, and Deception fit his music perfectly. It's a great song for just having the guitar and vocals, but I've always wondered how incredible it would sound as a full fledged Heavy Metal song!?
Lyrics
Lyrics and Music written in January 1992
(1st Verse)
I've come a long way to be where I am now. I've gone through Hell, gone through Hell.
I've kept myself alive and I don't know how. I've lived in Hell, lived in Hell.
I listened to the preachers, the teachers, and the peers,
authority has grabbed me by the balls.
I believed the sinners were winners down inside
until they put me up against the wall.
*(Chorus)
Deception, deception, watch out for the lies.
Deception, deception, don't turn your back, don't close your eyes.
(2nd Verse)
I never thought that I could be so blind, I couldn't see, couldn't see.
It was dark ahead just like it was behind, so hard to see, hard to see.
They used me as they wanted, I was haunted by demands,
they told me where to go and what to do.
I had to play by their rules, I was fooled into their games,
everytime I lost I was torn in two. *
(Repeat 1st Verse)
(Repeat Chorus)
Deception, deception, watch out for the lies.
Deception, deception, don't turn your back, don't close your eyes.
Deception, deception, watch out for the lies.
Deception, deception, don't turn your back, don't close your eyes.
