A song for my Mom. She worked hard all of her life for her family and our country. When she retired she became an author and supporter of the Young Marines organization.
Singer, songwriter. Recording enthusiast.
Story behind the song
I wrote this song for my Mom after she retired from Federal Civil Service. She had an idea of a new project. She'd worked for the USMC and decided to write a book "THE HAT and THE CAT" about one of her tomcats going through boot camp training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. The story was written to entertain and help explain to children what their parents might have gone thru during boot camp. She wrote the second book "YOUNG MARINES and A CAT SAVE CHRISTMAS for the Young Marines Organization. This song includes references to some of those characters.
Lyrics
Tiger In The Lowcountry Dan Andrade
There’s a tiger in Carolina.
There’s a big cat in the Lowcountry
She’s traveled all the world
But it’s where she still calls home
In the shade of that old oak tree.
Well she worked hard all her life now.
To provide for her family.
She never did complain, there was no gravy train
Just a job that she had to do.
Just a job that she had to do.
Now the time has come to bask in the sun
Be proud of all the good things she’s done.
She stood up for what she thought was right
She never backed down from a fight.
She made her own way through this world
Yes, she blazed a trail through this world.
Well she put pen to paper.
Wrote 2 books about her tomcats and their friends.
Pepper and Bubba showed the way and with the Young Marines they saved the day
Together they all found their way, and here’s what they had to say.
There’s tiger in Carolina
There’s a big cat in the Lowcountry.
