Story behind the song
Karen was a hard person to get to know. She was very private, and it was almost impossible to get a picture of her. And in her eyes, there was the haunted look of a person who had suffered, broken pieces of a shattered life. This song is a result of my reflections on a five-minute conversation I had with her not long before she passed.
Lyrics
I can’t say why the Lord takes Our dear friends away It’s just part of the Curse So I’ve heard someone say Death comes to each of us Though we never know when We deserve it, you know For the depth of our sin Chorus: But the eyes are the windows To each person’s soul They reveal all the hidden Shattered pieces we hold We can hide them, ignore them, But if truth be told The Lord makes them beautiful When we simply let go. She was quiet and private Always sat in the back And she kept to herself Like she feared an attack She knew all of the Bible And did not love the World But so few got to know This invisible girl. Chorus: The walls that she built up To keep us away Were a mute testimony To what she suffered each day All the whispers and stares About her wild crazy hair And the hurtful things said As if she wasn’t there. Chorus: In a place with no darkness No fear, and no pain No whispers and rumors, Nor crying again Those dear broken pieces Have all been made new What’s been done there for her Can be done, too, for you. Chorus:
