Story behind the song
"Mustang Sally" is a rhythm and blues (R&B) song written and originally recorded by Mack Rice in 1965. The song's origin story has two versions. One version says that Rice wrote the song as a joke when he learned that one of gospel singer Della Reese’s band members wanted a new Ford Mustang car345. The other version says that the song stems from a traditional African American folk song called Little Sally Walker. The song gained greater popularity when Wilson Pickett covered it in 1966 and his version became a hit single
