da Illout
alternative hiphop rap acid jazz beats holiday music
Instrumental Phunk is a hip-hop/jazz group that performs all types of music. IPh Productions are hip-hop beatmakers.
12 years ago a group of guys cut class to chill in the band room of Philly's High School for Engineering and Science. Little did we know that not going to class would set our lives on a common path-- the production and performance of dope hip-hop music. Since then, Instrumental Phunk has recorded a demo (1996) and an extra song (1997 and 1998), performed live, and now are delving into hip-hop production.

Story behind the song
After completing our demo in 1996, we were still amped about doing the music thing. We had an idea for a party song called da Illout. It's your basic "put ya hands up and say ho" hip-hop party song. The original mix is fast because our drummer sorta ran away with the beat. And we didn't have the $$$ to redo the song (studio time is DEFINITELY $$$). So, when we went to lay the vocals, it took Ill and Kre Z. Stylz a couple time to lay their vocal. Teqniq and I did ours in one take. We concluded it was because we were from the West Oak Lane portion of Philly. After doing this, the next year we decided to record a slower version of the song and it sounded just as good if not better than the original. Kre Z. Stylz played both keys and Fender rhodes on the track. Unfortunately, we never got it mixed down. Leon is on keyboard and Fender rhodes, John is on drums, Steve is on saxophone. Dave, Tyrone, and Steve are rhyming.
