new mix which sees both of us as Beatle tragics hanging onto every lyric, note and sound that could be debated ad infinitum on those great nights we'd (Jen, myself and Bruce) record at Bruce's studio.

some people get by with a little understanding, some people get by with a whole lot more..
think back to when the Monkees were riding high in the charts with such great songs as 'Daydream Believer' and 'Last Train to Clarksville' and how the world seemed less complicated and more focussed on serious issues as opposed to Tik Tok or Instagram and if we don't think we've lost something we're crazy...but if we think it's coming back anytime soon then we are complete fools...ok, Christmas salutations from myself, Jill, Louie the wonder dog and cha-cha the kitty kat, everyone else has left us now, lol - empty nesters...haha! can you still recall in the juke box hall when the music played and the world spun round to a brand new sound in those far off days.. in their blue suede shoes they would scream and shout as they sang the blues, let it all hang out.. rock and roll...

Story behind the song
so, my bandmate and myself have always thought the Beatles, along with PF (and Bowie) were the most influential rock acts of all time - great to have had opportunity to record and mix this Lennon classic. I've asked myself when did I personally think Lennon was a genius and it was in '75 (still in primary school) when I for Christmas I received a copy of 'Shaved Fish' and got totally turned onto tracks like 'Mother' and 'Mind Games', which I'd play over and over (no repeat button then, you actually had to lift the arm of the needle and line it up again, wow how laborious was that, lol!) I would think every line Lennon sang he was aiming fair and square at me for my total consumption and that I was the only person who got him on planet earth...haha, lol - sounds funny now but that's true...this only happened one other time in my life with one other artist and that was Springsteen through my thirties - bot fellas wrote unbelievably personal lyrics and they wrote them unbelievably well.
Lyrics
I read the news today, oh boy About a lucky man who made the grade And though the news was rather sad Well, I just had to laugh I saw the photograph He blew his mind out in a car He didn't notice that the lights had changed A crowd of people stood and stared They'd seen his face before Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords I saw a film today, oh boy The English Army had just won the war A crowd of people turned away But I just had to look Having read the book I'd love to turn you on Woke up, fell out of bed Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup And looking up, I noticed I was late Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke And somebody spoke and I went into a dream I read the news today, oh boy Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall I'd love to turn you on

A Bowiesque version of a Beatles classic, along with your own special creativity! There is certainly a new dimension to this cover that George Martin hadn't thought of. Great job.

An ambitious cover. Kept the original feel while putting your own signature and the lowest note to the highest note. Not sure I would know how to pull that off. Good job.
