Story behind the song
As I prayed the Lords Prayer this morning (3/12/2025), I was trying to think what the words really mean to me. So, I tried to write in italics what I think each petition is saying. The goal is Just A Closer Walk With Thee. This may not be everyones interpretation, so feel free to add your retation to the Interp.
Lyrics
Our Father who art in Heaven. You are sovereign over all and have the clearest perspective of Your created world.
Hallowed be Your name. You alone are holy. May we give You the reverence that belongs only to You.
Your kingdom come. We look forward to the day when you bring all the kingdoms of the world into submission.
Your will be done. Nothing supersedes Your will. So, all that we, Your people, experience is for our good.
On Earth as it is in Heaven. Everything runs smoothly in Your domain. May You grace Your people with that peace.
Give us this day our daily bread. You provide for all our needs. May we be content with all that comes from Your hand
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. We owe all to You. Help us extend Your forgiveness to others.
And lead us not into temptation. Jesus, You endured all Satans temptations. We are not that strong. Please help us.
But deliver us from the evil one. Satan comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; but, You came to give us abundant life.
For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
