Artist picture
female singer/songwriter/musician from East TN
I am a solo singer/songwriter/musician from an abyssmal black hole of a town called Morristown in East Tennessee. I have played the piano since I was 6 and took up the acoustic guitar in October 2003. I like covering songs but I also write a few myself. I've played on open mic nights in downtown Morristown, The Acoustic Battles at The DownTown, open mics in North Carolina at Blue Mountain Pizza and hopefully some others soon. I have been given alot of support by the other local musicians I am currently a music and Spanish double major at Mars Hill College near Asheville, NC, and am interested in meeting other musicians around the area and possibly playing some open mic nights. I'd like to venture out into the world of gigs but I am on a college student budget and do not own equipment other than my guitar. So for now I'm stuck with open mics and things of the nature unless I can get a gig where amplification and such is provided. I put a lot of time right now into my classical voice stuff and will have a recital coming up in the next 6 months, but hopefully I can get some new acoustic stuff together soon. The songs I have on this page aren't of great sound quality because I record with my mic onto my comp, but it works well enough I suppose. Hope you enjoy.

Story behind the song
It's an interesting story actually, or I think so anyway. I was at the Java Garden one night back in December and one of the local musicians came up and gave me a hug. I was sitting down, he was standing, and my face was buried in his fleece jacket, and the distinct smell of cigarettes in the jacket hit me. The line 'the faint smell of cigarettes on the clothes you wear' popped into my head and would not leave me alone. This is what that line evolved into within the next few weeks. This is officially my first completed song. I had written lyrics before, or instrumental piano pieces. Taking up the guitar allowed me to write on a whole new level. The chords in the song pretty much encompass the extent of my guitar knowledge at the time it was written.
Lyrics
You lying next to me Under a starry sky Lost in a reverie Watching the world pass by The faint smell of cigarettes On the clothes you wear Little things I’ll never forget About you being near Oh, Why’d you have to leave me all alone In this great big world I really thought you loved me Guess I was…I was wrong The sweet love we made Every kiss gave to me All thoughts I have saved Bittersweet memories Countless hours spent In your embrace Love letters sent Feelings time can’t erase Oh, Why’d you have to leave me all alone In this great big world I really thought you loved me Guess I was…I was wrong
