Story behind the song
Dancing in the Storm was born from a place of surrender rather than strength. It came at a moment when I realised that surviving the storm was no longer enoughI needed to learn how to worship God inside it. The song reflects a return. Not to a place, but to a posture of the heart. After wandering through self-reliance, disappointment, and the quiet exhaustion that comes from trying to fix oneself, I recognised a familiar truth: every time I chose my own way, it led me further from peace. Verse 1 is a confession of that journeyacknowledging that God’s love is not only comforting, but corrective. It heals, reshapes, and gently confronts what is broken within me. The pre-chorus captures a decisive turning point. It is the moment of letting go of personal wisdom, pride, and controladmitting that my understanding, though sincere, could not lead me into the light I was searching for. Peace was never found in independence, but in dependence. The chorus is the heart of the song. The “storm represents life’s ongoing trialssuffering, uncertainty, and unanswered questions that do not simply disappear when faith begins. Rather than asking for the storm to end, the prayer becomes deeper: Teach me to hear You here. Teach me to praise You here. Teach me to dance here. Dancing, in this sense, is not celebration because circumstances are good, but worship because God is present. Verse 2 is an offering. Every burden, every trouble, laid down without reservation. It speaks of discovering that God’s love is not forceful or demanding, but gentletoo precious to abandon once truly known. The closing lines affirm a covenant of the heart: a refusal to let go, even when the storm continues. Dancing in the Storm is ultimately a song about learning joy without escape, faith without guarantees, and worship without conditions. It is a testimony that even in the fiercest winds, God remains nearand that sometimes, the greatest miracle is not rescue from the storm, but grace to dance within it.
Lyrics
Dancing in the Storm Verse 1: O greatest Healer of my soul, here I come once more, My spirit longs for Your true love that makes me whole. I search no further, for I’ve wandered and I’ve seen, Your love corrects my crooked ways and reshapes my soul within. Pre-Chorus: I don’t want to walk my way again; it only led to night. I don’t want to trust my own insight; it robbed me of my peace and light. Chorus: I only want to walk Your way; teach my heart to hear You in the storm. I only want to give You praise, O Lord; teach me how to dance with joy in the storm. Verse 2: I have laid all of my burdens before Your throne, I have poured out all my troubles before You, Lordoh yeah! Your love is gentle, far too precious to let go, Take my heart, Lord, You are my life; I won’t let go, my Love. *Pre-Chorus + Chorus* Copyright 2025 Richard Shekari Written, produced and performed by Richard Shekari.
