Singer/songwriters and group musicians playing various forms or music
Welcome to our page. The Just Plain Folks western Massachusetts chapter features various musicians -- some who play solo, some who are in groups, and some who don't play out. At meetings, we tend to bring along original songs to play for each other to hear; sometimes they're recorded live. Some of these recordings, as well as home recordings of songs presented at our meetings and whatever other songs we choose to post, appear on our music page. Thanks for visiting and listening!

Story behind the song
Sleeping poorly
Lyrics
WITHOUT A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP VERSE I do not sleep well. I’ve an alarm bell which keeps on waking me –- A non-stop ringer. A bony finger, it prods incessantly. It points and pokes and pesters for who knows’ sake And only pauses when I’m going to break. I wish I knew what Plagues me so much but it’s such a mystery. BRIDGE And yet anxiety’s tucked me in its fold. It presses down and won’t relinquish its hold. It’s hard to function Minus ompunction without a good night’s sleep. MIDDLE I’m like an inverse Rip Van Winkle. It’s been twenty years Since I slept soundly through the night (Unburdened by my fears?). INSTRUMENTAL - 1 Verse BRIDGE If only I could tell what’s setting this off –- A lumpy pillow or a mattress too soft? I’d be so happy -– ‘cause I feel crappy without a good night’s sleep. VERSE Without some slumber I merely lumber, slump like a drooping tree. My leaves are thinning. It’s the beginning of my finality. I can’t hold up a branch of the shortest length. This constant drowsiness saps me of all strength. I feel I’ve lost it Since I’m exhausted without a good night’s sleep. BRIDGE If I don’t solve this how’ll I ever fulfill My “vast potential” ‘fore I’m over the hill? It’s hard to rise up And win a prize cup without a good night’s sleep. CODA ...without a good night’s sleep. ...without a good night’s sleep. (3-11-2003) WORDS AND MUSIC COPYRIGHT 2003 BY PETER J. SCHINDELMAN. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
