Story behind the song
After the "Lessons In Geography" recording sessions near the end of spring 2004, I returned to my late 2003 experiences with a new attitude and wrote this song.
Lyrics
We sat on your top stair
You called me teddy bear
I didn't know what was going to come of that
I needed someone who
Would make me feel like you do
I guess my heart was just misplaced
Bonding over cups of coffee
Over talks of movies that ended in the happiest of ways
Living life like it was water
Swimming through the endings of all our favorite movies, books and plays
But when it all came down to it, you couldn't give more than your best
We sat on your top stair
You called me teddy bear
I didn't know what was going to come of that
I needed someone who
Would make me feel like you do
I guess my heart was just misplaced
Falling faster than a rock thrown
From the Eiffel Tower before it hits a tourist in the head
Running far enough to leave him
Bleeding on the pavement, but you can't hide from all the things you said
And when it all came down to it, I should have known that was your best
We sat on your top stair
You called me teddy bear
I didn't know what was going to come of that
I needed someone who
Would make me feel like you do
I guess my heart was just misplaced
And when it all came down to it, you couldn't give more than your best
(Was that your best?)
We sat on your top stair
You called me teddy bear
I didn't know what was going to come of that
I needed someone who
Would make me feel like you do
I guess my heart was just misplaced
So I'll get help and bandages for all my wounds
So I'll get help and bandages for all my wounds
