Story behind the song
We had some time off and stayed a few days in New Mexico. Walter and I were walking to the local grocery store and we were just throwing song ideas back and forth and this came out of that discussion. We wrote that song that night!
Lyrics
“ I WILL “ Walter Garland Joe Alford VERSE 1 My first day of school I was six years old Afraid if I got on that bus I might not get back home I held my father’s hand not wanting to let go He looked down at me and said there’s something you should know CHORUS 1 There may be some times when you’re out on your own You may feel like this whole world has left you all alone But don’t you ever think that I won’t be there for you still You have my word I will VERSE 2 I went off to war when I turned twenty-one We prayed to the Holy Ghost, a father and his son We wondered what our lives without each other might have been I looked into his worried eyes and heard these words again CHORUS 2 There may be some times when you’re out on your own You may feel like this whole world has left you all alone But don’t you ever think that I won’t be there for you still You have my word I will BRIDGE I cried when I got that call that said he was fading fast I knew that our next words might be our very last I held my father’s hand not wanting to let go I looked down at him and said there’s something you should know CHORUS 3 There may be some times when you’re out on your own You may feel like this whole world has left you all alone But don’t you ever think that I won’t be there for you still You have my word I will TAG I will always be that little boy that loves you still You have my word I will @1997
