Story behind the song
I was standing, looking out of the window of the singer's flat one evening. I could see her reflection in the window and the words came to me. We had actually met on a train, and even though I had never seen her before, I knew her the instant I set eyes on her. So, the lyric refers to this past life connection we make with people, a butterfly effect, if you will. The strength of these connections can be devastating. The line, 'my soul remembers you' says it all really, and the line came from a poem my partner, Lesley, wrote for a long lost love of hers and was kind enough to let me use it. I think the soul recognises other souls but the human personality that it incarnates through then interprets the connection according to inclination, conditioning and expectations. Its also the hardest song I've written, going through many incarnations itself, over about eight very hectic months of my life. Gilleen and I owe our thanks to Stuart who was very encouraging during this process and let us use the studio for a large part of the development but ultimately I finished it in my very modest home setup between cups of tea and thousands of cigarettes.
Lyrics
YOUR MEMORY LINGERS ON
Through my window,
I can see your face,
Though you’ve gone,
Your memory lingers on
You ran away,
My soul remembers you,
For always,
Your memory lingers on
You don’t know how I’ve tried,
To be brave all through the lonely nights,
But I can’t have you back,
While I’ve still got my pride,
But,
Chorus
Your memory lingers on
Through the years,
Your face may fade away,
But in the stillness of time,
Your memory lingers on
You don’t know how I’ve tried,
To be brave all through the lonely nights,
But I can’t have you back,
While I’ve still got my pride.
Chorus
Your memory lingers on
