Country influences on a city boy
I'm an amateur lyric writer who has been posting my lyrics on various songwriter boards for the past few years. Every now and then someone offers to put music to one of my lyrics. Since I don't sing or play any instruments these collaborations are the only way my work can be heard. This is a collection of some of these songs. You'll see they are in a couple of different genres.

Story behind the song
It's a combination of my feelings growing up near NYC with the experiences of family members who left that life for Colorado.
Lyrics
City Boy, Country Heart Born on the west side of the Hudson About forty years gone now Under the shadow of New York City Where there’s no farms or fields to plow Mom always had that radio Tuned to Country - JRZ Those comforting tones from way down home Brought Hank and Willie home to me I’m from the badlands of New Jersey Where streetlight flickers pass for stars Where the mountains all have windows And the valleys are full of cars Raised in this city landscape A city boy with a country heart Apartment life sure is stifling When the bedroom has an alley view I’d lie there trying to imagine Wide open vistas, skies of blue It made me ready for escaping When I finally came of age To follow where that music led me With the country as my stage Far from the badlands of New Jersey Where streetlight flickers pass for stars Where the mountains all have windows And the valleys are full of cars Away from this city landscape A city boy with a country heart So I roamed the hills and byways Looking for a brand new start Rock and Roll may have stole my soul But Country held my heart Settled for a mountain hillside A dirt path passes for a street I raised my children to appreciate The simple pleasures that I seek Far from the badlands of New Jersey Where streetlight flickers pass for stars Where the mountains all have windows And the valleys are full of cars Away from that city landscape A city boy with a country heart
