He also played all instruments and vocals on all songs, except on the album (produced by the African American producer Forrest Thomas) and on the Dutch song 'Doe Maar Multicultureel'. In these songs, Doc Jazz collaborated with prominent professionals from the Dutch jazz and fusion scene. His music can be found in a wide variety of styles ranging from piano ballads to funky music with a groove and with a taste of Doc Jazz's characteristic rock guitar solos (and on 'Front Door Key' the mesmerizing saxophone solos of Susanne Alt) - in three languages:. A Palestinian short shepherd's flute called the is also often featured in the songs. One last note: don't assume the music of Doc Jazz is only political! If you scroll through the vast collection of songs, you will find many songs about other subjects of love, and of life!

Story behind the song
Words, music and performance by Doc Jazz Background Dutch society, previously renowned for its tolerance, seems to have changed into a society where muslim minorities feel unwanted and disrespected. Newspapers, radio and television are showering their audience with programs that aim to depict Islam as evil, backward and violent. Political developments abroad are used by the media to enhance these conceptions, by drawing them from their context, and thus using them to sustain the negative stereotype. People from former Islamic backgrounds, who indulge in self-hatred and whole-heartedly express their hatred towards their former religion, are pushed forward in the media and in politics, like notorious Dutch-Somali politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali. A month ago, Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who had made a vulgar anti-Islamic film together with the aforementioned politician, was murdered by a young Dutch man of Moroccan origin. In the week that followed, 17 arson and bomb attacks against mosques and Islamic schools were enacted, apparently by angry right-wing Dutch extremists. No matter how one twists and turns the subject, the reality is that a whole segment of society cannot be punished for the acts of a single man. The muslims of the Netherlands do not need to feel a collective guilt for this crime, and do not need to feel responsible for it. But the attacks on mosques and schools come as no surprise, if we take into account that Dutch politicians as well as media have implanted ideas about muslims into the minds of indigenous Dutch people, that would scare anyone ... unfortunately these ideas are baseless, and serve only to divide society along the lines of ethnic background. It is impossible to live as a muslim in the Netherlands, and not to experience the extreme disrespect that exists in this country towards Islam. A second generation muslim youth growing up, during the vulnerable stages of his or her life, in this period of anti-Islamism, experiences continuous unpleasant pressure from this totally unjustified disrespect. Right-wing groups in the Netherlands, who are still rebuilding their basis of political representation after the death of Pim Fortuyn, are calling for the end of a multicultural society, and the cultural assimilation of the youths of these ethnic minorities. In other words, they are to de-islamize themselves in order to be accepted into Dutch society. This unacceptable excuse for racism is the result of a lack of respect, which is fed and enhanced by media and politicians. This is why "Respect" calls upon the Islamic youths to stay who they are and protect their identity, and upon Dutch society to embrace the concept of respect for other cultures and religions.
