Story behind the song
One of our more experimental pieces this, starting out with what can only be described as lounge-lizard death, before exploring some more traditional territory, then incorporating doom and punk elements.
Lyrics
RUINOUS OPIATE Humanities ruinous opiate of consumption Transforms hallowed greenery to mildewed wrecks As the concrete grey becomes our reflection Your act of contrition proves false and hollow Mandarins like drones hasten to their doom Dwelling in the misery of the unhappy souls The box with the fastest lid prised open Releasing acts that inspire minds revulsion A malodorous flux permeates the air As blemished souls decline without a care Give a litany in praise of all our deaths Without struggle, an elegy to the flesh People entrapped in suffocating snare Gradual demise unnoticed by the unaware Sight impaired by a cloak of red Choking existence filled with daily dread. Humanities ruinous opiate Concrete grey Mildewed wrecks Reflect our lives In this our ruinous opiate The collective consciousness forms a corpse Despoiling the devoted immature mind It’s capillaries strain, precious fluidity tears The framework of veins gushes scarlet through the air A fatality in the source of all life The water cleanses no guilt, cannot be saviour Like Ophelia in the lake, surrounded by lilies Given a warning not to dabble in curios. Lyrics by Mark Fox Music by Mark McGowan & Richard Mumford Malediction music 1994, 2000
