Acoustic folk from Glasgow, Scotland. One guitar, one voice, bound to be wearing a checked shirt and drinking tea. Sad songs, happy ones, protest, love and Chri
An acoutic singer-songwriter-y sort of fellow, with tinges of folk and a hint of lime. Likes: tea, checked shirts and listening to music. Dislikes: writing bios in the third person. Take a listen if you can to some of the music. If you've time, it would be good if you could leave a comment on the messageboard bit and a link to your own music if you've got one so I can give you a listen! :::::::::NEWS::::::::: 21/9 Haven't updated this page in ages, though I've uploaded a couple of new songs: - mainly because I've finally got a new website up, www.midgemckay.co.uk :) 27/3 Not getting much chance to do anything with music at all at the moment due to having a rather busy non-music life! Deadlines at university and the rest of the non-fun parts of being a student. But I still found an aold song I had written words to and never completed, so I'm half way through playing with that. Guess it'll have to go in the pile with all the other things I wanted to do to put on Soundclick:( Here's hoping I get some free time sometime soon! 17/3 Plod-along song complete! It's called Tenderness (though that could possibly change a wee bit) and if I Can get some work done today on other stuff then I can have a go at recording some of it. I've still not started The Crow's song that I want to cover though, have to see about that too! But hey - it's Sunday. 13/4 After SC being down for a few days, I finally got the chance to put some reviews up on the page. Check them out on the links bit to the right of this. In other news, I've been writing a plod-along song, nice and happy (so far), think Badly Drawn Boy when his mum knits him a new hat. 6/4 Dan, aka The Crow (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/thecrowvt.htm) has allowed me to record one of his songs, The Meeting Of Hands. I think it's a brilliant song, and I'm excited at the prospect of recording it myself. 1/4 Decided against the rack compressor - I might as well use the software one I have, and spend the money on other things:) First thing was a new Schaller soundhole pickup, so that's something new to play with - already recorded a rough version of The Flag by Martin Hollis, a friend of mine. A few more days work on it (amongst copious amounts of tea) and I'll have a nice new song! 28/3 Planning on investing on some new recording equipment, my microphones aren't too great and I fancy getting a nice rack-mounted compressor, isn't eBay our friend? Might try and get a couple more songs up from the back collection - enjoyed my #33 spot in the Acoustic Folk chart, Scots Wha' Hey and Raise your Hand seem to get quite a number of plays! 25/3 Uploaded "Raise Your Hand". It is one of five songs from the "Like Father, Like Son" EP I had been working on with a fellow songwriter. The lyrics and story behind the song are up, so you can check it out. 21/3 Began recording a song I've had on the back burner for a while now, "You Make Me So Proud". It's about a family who lose their father in the war. In other news, I'll be putting up some songs from the Single Mic Sessions. The name says it all: one mic, no mastering or anything, just normalised volume and mp3'd. The first 2 to go up will be "Brand New" and "Scots Wha' Hey". 20/3 Uploaded four songs from The Tryst Workshop. Hoping to re-record a couple of the older songs, maybe going for the simple approach instead of layers.

Story behind the song
The song was written early one morning after I had a vivid dream of the feelings felt when proposing - clichéd to say, but both the chorus and melody were straight from the dream.
Lyrics
Its been close to seven years now seven years of saying to myself telling the mirror how id bend down on one knee seven years of not much else how ive longed to have a chance to say to you i spend so long thinking it out one question for my precious one never told anybody else about if I asked you to marry me, what would you say if I asked you to marry me, I could see you every day if I asked you to marry me, would you say yes? my heart beats like the day i met you our eyes met far across the room you looked so deep inside my soul i knew you'd always see my good my dream is that we are together I love you more with every breath with every glance i steal i see for me there's nobody else [bridge] ive talked to you about the future asked you what you think you would say you tell me you'd say yes but am i dreaming its a dream Id never want away?
