Story behind the song
This song just came to me one day our of the blue. I had just returned from A tour in Poland, so maybe all the rivers and nature there triggered it off. It's about a couple sitting on the rocks of the Slaney River (Ireland) She has to fly to USA next day, and they are savouring their last moments together. Feedback Welcome :) colmbarrymusic@eircom.net
Lyrics
My Slaney Rose’ From the Albums 'Chapter One-In the Beginning', ‘My Slaney Rose’ and ‘A Decade of Song 1993-2003’ We sat among the rippling Slaney’s flow To watch the stars a twinkling in the sky But we both knew that when the sun would shine again Across the great Atlantic she would fly So I kissed her gently, told her not to cry For someday soon we both would meet again And I’d long for the day when I would greet you home Then we’d be together till the day we die So it’s fare thee well to my Slaney Rose Until we meet again in Wexford town For someday you’ll return from good ole San Antoine I’ll love you till I die my Slaney Rose When she said she loved me, on the telephone A silent tear came to my eye But I must be strong for my Slaney Rose For I know that someday she’ll be my bride So it’s fare thee well to my Slaney Rose Until we meet again in Wexford town For someday you’ll return from good ole San Antoine I’ll love you till I die my Slaney Rose Copyright Control Composed: Colm Barry
