Hi folks. I have added a lot of videos recently. Please take a look!
Hi folks, This site acts as a personal archive of my work. So you'll find my best recordings here as well as some pretty crappy ones. The earliest recordings here were made on simple cassette decks, others were made on mobile phones, some are live recordings made at various gigs over the years, a handful were made in small recording studios, but most of the more recent ones were made at home on a Zoom portable studio, which itself is now rather ancient! If you like a song and want to download it, click on 'Full song info' for that song and you will see the download link. You can also read the lyrics and any background information on the songs that I may have added. All my music is available for free - enjoy :) cheers, Charles

Story behind the song
In 1972 I was living in Malaysia teaching English and writing songs. Around the time I wrote this song I met a guy called Ean Jay - a Canadian disk jockey who was living in Kuala Lumpur. He liked the song and he knew a local band called The Strollers who were already a local hit band. He got us together in King studio in Petaling Jaya to record this number with the band playing and me singing and playing acoustic guitar. When it was released it shot to number one in the Malaysian charts...leading to a short period of local stardom. The Strollers were all far more competent musicians than me and consisted of Billy - Rhythm guitar, Mike Magnus - keyboards, Hussein Idris - Drums, Hassan Idris - Lead Guitar and Nandu Kumar on Bass. The picture here was used on the sleeve for the single. I wore a beard in those days... what was that about?! This recording was made from the last surviving copy I have of the 45 rpm vinyl - amazing it survived :) I have put a couple of pictures of the Strollers in 1972 on my pictures page on this site. Later that year Ean and myself and a couple of other ex-pats got together with some local pop fans and put on the famous Camp Semangat Woodstock - Malaysia's first two-day outdoor pop festival... featuring several local bands and an Indonesian band also... I played a few acoustic numbers and acted as compere... There is a really interesting discussion about all this that you can see here: http://ricecooker.kerbau.com/2006/05/06/the-strollers-revisited/
Lyrics
I know everything's gonna be fine Though everything seems to be wrong And everyone's running around Hanging their heads down Sad thing - everyone's karma is growing Nobody seems to be knowing How to be free of the chains Dragging them down again It looks so bad bad bad It makes you cry It makes me sad sad sad To see you sigh Whoa! Open up your eyes! Take me by surprise! Look into the skies And see the sunrise! La la la la la! It makes you cry cry cry It looks so bad It makes me sigh sigh sigh To see you sad Whoa! I have seen it's true You can see it too All that I can do Is try to show you I know everything's gonna be fine Though everything seems to be wrong And everyone's running around Hanging their heads down
