Story behind the song
I had to turn something in for class. I had fifteen minutes. I wrote this poem. my class hated the title; they didn't see how it fit. but it fits.
Lyrics
on the table in the kitchen mother's lucid blue glass pitcher dirty well water tasting like rust dirty well water poisoned like love tea kettle whistles a fireful scream mother likes oolong with a dollop of cream pottery class mug cracked at the lip like the hem of mother’s torn white slip she claims the lace got caught on her bed-side table and not when she pulled herself up the stairs, leaving a trail of blood and spit and hair, her fists in tight little balls of heat her face as pale as a forgotten dream. she wraps her hands around her mug the things, she says, we do for love.
