Story behind the song
In late '70's I accompanied the Gideons to Ross County (Ohio) jail for Sunday services. I was amazed that many inmates seemed to be great guys, much like myself, who made some dumb choices that landed them here. Thinking back to before I met Christ, this song is a reflection on my feelings on their behalf, and how my life changed. Refers to Jesus' words, "...you (Pharisees) don't know where I come from. I know both where I am from and where I am going to!"
Lyrics
I'm alone again.
I'm on my own again,
and sometimes I don't know what to do.
I'm without a friend,
and it seems there's just no end
to all the things I'm going through.
Sometimes I'm not sure where I'm going to
and sometimes I'm not sure where I'm from.
Sometimes I swear that it's all over,
and sometimes I swear it's just begun...
And then Jesus came
and He said, "Just trust my Name
and you know I'll always be your Guide.
When the troubles come,
and when you want to run,
in the darkness, I'll be right by your side.
For I know exactly where where I'm going to,
and I know exaclty where I'm from.
When this old world could swear that it's all over
then I promise you, it's only just begun.
Yes, I promise you,
that it's only
just begun.
