Story behind the song
This is about religion. Something I find disturbing is how people are willing to discard reason in favour of blind faith; follow that path and we'll soon find ourselves trying to influence the weather with sacrificial poultry. For some people, the Dark Ages never ended. I reckon this will prove to be one of the biggest political problems, because it hinges on fundamentally different outlooks. If individuals want to get tangled up with mysticism, then that's their business. But when individuals organise to force their views onto everyone else, then we have a major problem. As an anarchist, I take it for granted that everyone wants freedom, but religion, as Bakunin noted, is a form of mental slavery. How should a society deal with people who willingly debase themselves? For my part, I hold that religion should have no part to play in public life.
