I wrote this song at a time when I was considering moving back east. You see, I lived on the Great Lakes my entire life until moving to South Dakota about 10 years ago. What a shock!
I miss my home on the shore of Lake Michigan but I've changed. Its not really home anymore. I guess writing this song was my way of sorting it all out.
Lyrics
I went to Chicago
For to sing the blues.
I searched all over
And wore out my shoes.
Couldnt find no work there
And I was feeling low.
A cold wind was blowin
So I decide to go.
Prairie sunrise,
You look good to me.
Prairie sunrise,
your just a memory.
I hitch a ride into Motown
To have a look around.
But I could breathe there
In that dirty town.
Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and New York
They were all the same.
When youve got no people
Your prospects are lame.
Prairie sunrise,
you look good to me.
Prairie sunrise,
your just a memory.
I called a friend in Milwaukee.
She said come out here.
You can play your music
And drink lots of beer.
So I headed westward
Just as fast as I could.
But the life I found there
Wasnt all that good.
Prairie sunrise,
you look good to me.
Prairie sunrise,
your just a memory.
