BOSS PLAYA aka ICEOLA The Biography “Touch your inner soul and I touch your reality You gonna feel something in that song.” Boss Playa aka Iceola Introducing, BOSS PLAYA AKA 'ICEOLA", a HIP-HOP/RAP Artist from Louisiana, whose fresh original beats and rhymes have a twist of that deep, deep, southern sound. A sound that can be described as a combination of Ebonics, history, and knowledgebut to really understand this sound, one needs to listen to it, to feel it. Boss writes a realistic song, rapping and singing about the commonalities in people, life, and history, periodically harmonizing what he is saying, to get the words remembered and felt, then switching his game and going back to rapping. It takes a unique individual to look for what we do have in common and provide songs that anyone can relate to, that with the added flavor of the south, makes his music addictingto say the least. For Years, Boss has been the secret ingredient in the making of recordings, performances, and development for Hip-Hop Artists East to Westlooking for his sound. Boss started in the music industry with an idea. He was not influenced or worried about what had been done in the past or what was ‘hot’ but inspired to write his beats by what was not being done. BOSS would absorb every piece of information he could gain knowledge from, whether it was from the books he read that were non-fiction and historical to the people he jibed with, he gathered his resources and applied it to his music. And this is how the Hip-Hop sound of the South developed by using a combination of Ebonics (or otherwise known as a “country way of talking”), the talents of professional sound engineers T Bone and Chris, and the undeniable originality of Boss’s music and his vision. His first big experience was as the front man, recording his Deep South Album ‘Boss Playa Bling On’ with Deep South Music Group, owned by BIG CHRIS, who was musically involved with Anthony Bozwell and Big Boz (Master P’s right hand man). Deep South Music Group set up recording sessions with NO LIMIT artists Mr. Magic (now a member of the Body Head Banger crew, owned by Roy Jones Jr.), Crazy, Wendy, and Ms. Tee (now with Juvenile Records), Hog A Leeni (recording artist for Hustle Mog out of Dallas, TX) with beats provided by Drumma Boy (now a NO LIMIT Producer) and recorded at Platinum Sound Studios, owned by T BONE, on the outskirts of New Orleans. Boss had a music video from his Deep South Album, “Boss Playa Bling On”, directed by Anthony Bozwell. Money is half of this particular industry with the love for the music and recognition for what you put out as the other half Boss wants to be recognized for what he puts in and that he gets what he deserves. His alias, ICEOLA, an Indian warrior who was rebellious, willing to fight to the finish, and fought the settlers for years for a better life for his people, never caught and never defeated, represents to BOSS who he is, summing up what he thinks is right and what is wrong. After the experience of recording his first album, he wanted to learn the professional, legal, and right way of producing his music. He says,” The professional level of this industry, with its guidelines and standards, is completely different than the street level. The Street level of the Hip-Hop industry has absolutely no boundaries and it relies on survival of the fittest. Whoever is putting the money behind you, you are reliant on. If they get caught up in the streets and go to jail and you were not smart enough to handle your business away from the streets, then you are confined to the same situation. If you are smart enough, then you can live to tell the story.” Boss has many stories that the Hip-Hop community can relate to as well as some notable accomplishments. Boss was asked to open for Snoop Dogg in 2004 in Jackson, Mississippi and they performed after the Sugar Bowl. He is a co- founder of RPM (Respect, Power, and Money) Studios in New Orleans, where he has developed recording artists like MAKO, BT, PALYNE, and BIG DUZ on what he calls his BOSS trip, produced and recorded with T BONE, ‘When The Walls Fall Down’ (a song dedicated to the soldiers who fought in Iraq) with beats provided by T BONE, GOLD, and NO LIMIT Drumma Boy, and recently recorded 4 songs with Universal/ Platinum Thugg’s Recording Artist Big Sloan with beats provided by T BONE and No Limit Drumma Boy. Boss will have these four songs ‘Put your cup in the Air’, ‘Hey Now’, ‘In The Club’, and ‘From The West To The South’ featured on Big Sloan’s new album ‘The West is Back’ being released June 2005. Like most artists that pioneer a new sound, BOSS PLAYA AKA ‘ICEOLA’ is clearly looking for collaborators, kindred spirits, to work with on a level that is beyond him self. With his recent recordings, he is calling you out, delivering the goods, and saying lets create a weapon of mass inspiration and unite.
