Lyrics
Dawn of Ryu
It was a long time ago, it ain't no joke yo/
Just a fine spring day in the mountains of Tokyo/
Dressed in my Gi, that was hotta than sweatpants/
Stood straight up as I fastened ma headband/
Mentally chantin' my Shotokan Mantra/
My morning routine was performin' ma kata/
Fist and Kick, Lunge and Punch/
Stress myself to da fullest till it's time for lunch/
Focusin' my ki, to come out da winner/
Visualize, and strike hard, crack da board ta splinters/
A front line fighter, master of fists/
I heard Ken, the American master of kicks/
I was throwing a punch at a tree for practice/
He tried ta surprise me with a kick from a backflip/
The encounter was a friendly spar/
I had to leave in 3 weeks, I will then be far/
So I grinned at my blonde brother/
Took a stance and I stomped the ground, make a sound like strong thunder/
He threw a roundhouse, with crazy force/
I took defense, with the stance of the crazy Horse/
From da corner of ma eye, I saw Sensei Gouken/
Step into form, for Shinkuu Hadouken/
Soul energy converge between my hands/
Ken saw that and he took a weakened stance/
Unleash the force of da ki, at my blood brother/
Electricity running through my body structure/
the wind swirled around me, the air was sucked in/
should I throw the fireball or should I uppercut him/
Release the Hadouken, but he came back with his own/
and the two canceled with a spectacular show/
He came with a front snap kick, pain inside/
threw a follow up punch but I feint and dodge/
My moves were too slow, try to fade low/
Had ta punch him back just so we could trade blows/
He escaped my grab with practiced agility/
His battle ability taught me mad humility/
We stood at a standstill without takin' steps/
With blood rushin' my brain as I take a breath/
My performance here would be frowned upon/
so for Gouken, i say "Ken now it's on/
I rush hard with a front-lunge/
He stepped back and he threw a kick fast ta counter ma one punch/
Rush and grabbed him, he had trouble with my grasp/
so I flipped him over, and he tumbled in da grass/
Eye for eye, a throw for one of his kicks/
he smirked at me, still a cocky son of a bitch/
I readied my stance, coudln't win it with words/
As he rushed, I tapped into my inner reserves/
I went for a hurricane kick right now/
"Tatsu maki sempuu kyaku", I cry out/
A vaccum formed, he was sucked after it/
And i hit him in da chest, with a kick after kick/
He was tossed like a cheap toy/
but then i saw the grin on his face and I realized it was a decoy/
Energy charged in his fist, he moved in/
And he hit me in da chin with a Shin Ryu Ken/
Then I flew to da ground, I saw him sore up/
But i wasn't done man I had some more stuff/
He looked down, and I took up his place/
He saw my grin, and got confused in da face/
On his way down, he could hear me steppin'/
I was using the art from 10 years of perfection/
His eyes got big, he ain't braggin' much/
Cuz then he realized that I done had a dragon punch/
So as he soared down, he blocked his chest/
and i stepped into my stance, I will not give rest/
This might be da victory punch, it just might be/
Gripped a fist and called all the Chi forth inside me/
With da energy runnin' through my memory/
This fight with my best friend, he'll remember me/
these visions flash before me/
I was an orphan till Gouken trained me and that's my story/
I looked up and Ken's eyes, well they got big/
I took a step and I launched like a rocket/
(interlude)
After that hit, he had to admit defeat/
then he confessed that he hadn't even practiced for weeks/
But never the less, don't underestimate da fight/
He laughed at me, and wanted ta go celebrate the night/
I gave him a nod, tied up my duffel bag/
The duel took a lot out me, I had enough of that/
I'll always keep moving, always keep trying/
and if I still got a finger, I'll always keep fighting/
