Bands start for many reasons: girls, drugs, free booze. Subjective Well Being merely wanted Pop Tarts.
Hi. We were Subjective Well Being, a three piece rock band from Hot Springs Village, AR. Even though we are no longer active, we are leaving this page up so that if anyone ever come across these tunes, they can still take a listen. We still check back here every once and awhile, so leave us a comment or a note and tell us what you think. Thanks for ten years of rock and roll!

Story behind the song
In a lot of ways this song was the song that kept us going as a band. Our lead guitar played had quit to focus on a group that he was playing in with Russ, and it seemed like Subjective Well Being was done. I wrote this song about that time, and I was listening to a lot of the Cure. I liked how their riffs seemed to echo on in your head as they were playing, so I wanted to write something like that. I sat down and wrote this song. Russ and I got together to just play for fun one day and I showed him the basic outline of this song and he seemed to like it. He played along and came up with the bass part you hear. We were going to do it as a Summer Project song with Taylor playing drums so we played it a few times through. My original chorus didn't work, but through playing it it came together and we came up with the bridge you hear here. At the end of it it felt like we were onto something, so we decided to see where we could go as a three piece. Lyrically I wrote this song about three different things: the first verse is about our lead guitarist quitting the band; the second about going nowhere; and the third about a time when I was hit by a car. The chorus is my way of kind of saying goodbye to all that. This might not be our best song (hadn't quite figured out dynamics yet), but it always hits me right.
Lyrics
Say only things that I long to hear No mumbled nothing to not be clear I've been waiting for so long I'm prepared for the worst Hoping for the carriage but expecting the hearse Walking into walls to see if they're real Opening up closed wounds to ensure they won't heal If it's all or nothing I'd feel better giving nothing That way nothing can be dissapointing I tasted gravel when my face grew intimate With the cold, hard, wet pavement Lying motionless to feel something different Only to find that I felt perfectly content CHORUS: But now I've found that wishing you were here is so much better then having you near
