What You Stand For
Comment Share
This is a patriotic song in the traditional sense with touch of irony.

Played guitar, fiddle & mandolin in Rock Bands, Country Rock and Southern Rock Bands during and after College in the late 70's. Presently concentrate on songwriting and home-recording. I had a couple of songs picked up by a music publisher at one point. Once in a while I get talked into performing again; otherwise I just get together with my friends.

Story behind the song
I get tired of people saying we're not patriotic if we disagree with some policies of our government. Hey, our country was founded on dissent.
Lyrics
WHAT YOU STAND FOR Some say these times are different I’m not sure what they mean People still dress the same In their suits and jeans WE still go to church on Sunday And love their apple pie And when its time to defend ourselves We’re not afraid to die And it don’t matter who you are- Or if you’re rich or poor It just matters- What you stand for (Chorus) And We stand for God & Country And respect for the law We stand up for Freedom We’re Not afraid of war It doesn’t matter who you are Or if you’re rich or poor It just matters- What you stand for Some say our flag is tarnished With that I don’t agree Its a difference of opinion That’s why they call us free Its like my daddy told me And his daddy said before You gotta stand for something And that something must be pure It don’t matter who you are Or if you’re rich or poor It just matters- What you stand for (Chorus)
