Story behind the song
This brief Variation was written in 5 days, from February 24-29th, 2004. It is one of many written by various composers on a pentatonic hymn by Joseph Dillon Ford. The images used here are by Joseph Dillon Ford and are used with his permission. He writes: "The images in this series are all based on complex digital manipulations of a photographic detail showing the largest of the two standing Buddha sculptures of Bamiyan, Afghanistan, destroyed by the Taliban in March of 2001." Statement by Joseph Dillon Ford: This variation on the "Hymn for the Standing Buddhas of Bamiyan" is one of many parts of a musical sound sculpture of global scale intended to commemorate and sustain the significance of the Standing Buddhas of Bamiyan, Afghanistan, destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. For the history of this sculpture, and to see and hear its other parts, please visit the following: Main Page of Standing Buddhas Project.
