This brief Variation was written in 5 days, from February 24-29th, 2004. It is one of many written by various composers on a pentatonic hymn by Joseph Dillon Ford. The images used here are by Joseph Dillon Ford and are used with his permission. He writes: "The images in this series are all based on complex digital manipulations of a photographic detail showing the largest of the two standing Buddha sculptures of Bamiyan, Afghanistan, destroyed by the Taliban in March of 2001."
Statement by Joseph Dillon Ford:
This variation on the "Hymn for the Standing Buddhas of Bamiyan" is one of many parts of a musical sound sculpture of global scale intended to commemorate and sustain the significance of the Standing Buddhas of Bamiyan, Afghanistan, destroyed by the Taliban in 2001.
