Artist picture
Singer/Songwriter in the tradition of classic country artists. A little humor and a whole lot of heart.
I've been writing songs since 1974. Over the past few years, I've participated in open mic's whenever possible and have become active in the Nashville Songwriters Association International ("NSAI").

Story behind the song
I spent my years in the bottle and years after in meeting rooms. Every now and then, my mind takes me back to the taste of good whiskey ... this song came from one of those times.
Lyrics
Dreams of days gone by They seem to linger Like melodies you can't get off your mind Memories of a past That slipped away so fast And left me somehow somewhere far behind I'm tryin' not to drink about it now Holding on to all I've heard of letting go If live and learn we must I trust reward The future will endow And I'm tryin' not to drink about it now Can't escape the loneliness of heartache Living at the far end of the bar Emptiness you try to fill You know you never will Whiskey wishing 'pon a neon star I'm tryin' not to drink about it now Holding on to all I've heard of letting go If live and learn we must I trust reward The future will endow And I'm tryin' not to drink about it now If I could live my life all over I wonder what I'd change and how But I'm tryin' not to drink about it now © 2005 John Tolley All Rights Reserved
