Story behind the song
I'm not a big fan of people who think they have it all figured out and force their opinions and beliefs on others. I had started writing this song in August of this year and was motivated to finish it after hearing Jerry Falwell's comments after September 11th. He basically said that those tragic events happened because we've fallen out of God's grace because of how we live. He's an ass.
Lyrics
I was just thinking how great it must feel To always know exactly how things oughtta be I can't help but wonder what makes you think it's right To force your beliefs on me or control what I do in my home at night (Chorus) I know you think you should be the high authority What you fail to realize is your nothing, nothing at all to me There's an old concept out there of which you might have heard It's called freedom and it's more than just a word You can climb upon your soapbox and say what you want to say If I don't want to listen it gives me the right to walk away (Chorus) I know you think you should be the high authority What you fail to realize is your nothing, nothing at all to me (Bridge) You and I, We'll never agree On freedom of choice, religion or hypocrisy But I would never try to dictate what you should say or do And I would expect that same courtesy from you You say your only trying to make us all see the light But from what I've seen your soul is darker than the night Your kind doesn't give a damn about what others think or feel Tell me will that be you on the throne when we're all forced to kneel (Chorus) I know you think you should be the high authority What you fail to realize is your nothing, nothing at all to me
