Lyrics
Stephen and Saul
Stephen, full of power and grace
The light of God shone from his face
He did great wonders and signs wherever he taught
He spoke of Jesus' sacrifice
How on the cross He paid the price
And He rose again and sent His Spirit to live in us
He said, “Jesus is the Son of Man;
He’s standing here to take our hand --
He will take us in His arms and lead us home”.
Saul couldn't stand what he would hear
So he persuaded men controlled by fear
To say that Stephen spoke words that were not true
Blasphemy! Take him away!
So they seized Stephen and testified
"He hates the law," the men all lied,
He says Jesus of Nazereth will destroy this place
The high priest asked "is all this true?"
"These men who are opposed to you
Are people that I know of good repute."
Stephen smiled an angel's smile,
Spoke from God's Word for quite a while,
The he said, “Was there ever a prophet you didn’t persecute?”
He said, “Jesus is the Son of Man;
He’s standing here to take your hand --
He will take you in His arms and lead you home”.
Furious, they gnashed their teeth
Their pride overcame belief
And they rushed to drag him away from the city
Saul, the leader of the pack
Said, "Tear his clothes from on his back,
Stone him! Stone him! Show the man no pity!"
The stones rained down on Stephen's head
With delight Saul said "He'll soon be dead."
What Saul saw Stephen do brought grim surprise
Standing naked in a pit
Bleeding, bruised where stones would hit
Stephen smiled in peace and raised his eyes
Chorus:(he said)
"I see heaven open
I see the glory of the Lord
I fall on my knees before His throne
And look, its the Son of Man
Standing at God's right hand
Jesus take me in Your arms, I am home."
Saul, still breathing murderous threat
Set out to kill all the believers that he met
But Saul met Jesus on the road
Around Him all of heaven glowed
Saul fell to his knees and began to pray
Chorus:(he said)
"I see heaven open
I see the glory of the Lord
I fall on my knees before His throne
And look, its the Son of Man
Standing here to take my hand
Jesus take me in Your arms, lead me home.
It is Jesus, He is the Son of Man,
Standing here to take your hand
Jesus, take us in Your arms, we are home.
