Story behind the song
I felt a need to honor the Veterans of the United States and Canadian Armed Forces. Though we have special days of the year to honor Veterans, every day is an opportunity to say thanks for their sacrifices. This recording was performed at the Mt.Baker Theater in Bellingham, Washington in 2003. During the instrumentals, Powerpoint projections of servicemen and women from WWII to present were shown. A new shorter version is in octavo form for choirs to perform at school and civic events honoring Veterans.
Lyrics
Imagine the face of the boy next door Who answered the call and he went to war To serve the Armed Forces that I might be free God bless that boy who sacrificed for me America's finest, the proud and the brave He is the face of freedom. Lest I forget those who fought for my freedoms Lest I forget those who suffered and died Lest I forget those still missing in action My Red, White, and Blue will fly. (Repeat verse with the "girl next door") How can I express my thoughts of gratitude and pride, For every man and woman who has served beneath our flag? Unworthy of their valor and the sacrifices made, Thank you from the land of the free, And the home, the home of the brave. (Return to chorus)
