Story behind the song
We sure can make a mess of things from time to time. Once again I find myself talking about life's struggles. I imagine myself in a hole trying to dig myself out but, I find myself being buried by my own efforts. When we come to know Christ we come with a baggage of issues. For some of us it may be a substance abuse. It's hard to have a clear picture of life when your mind is clouded and your body is polluted. Eventually the addictions will bring you to a crossroads in your life. A place where you will have to choose between the substance and what's left in your life (family, friends & health). Trying to kick any habit can be very hard, but no one can change for you. You must declare within yourself to clean up the mess you made in your life. The love of God and family can help ease the pain as you step forward towards a better life
Lyrics
(Chorus) I'm gonna clean up what I missed up and change And turn my life around. I'm gonna start by telling that lyin' devil He can't come around. I'm gonna stop hanging ‘round That sweet girl Mary Jane. I'm gonna put my pipe away And stop snorting that powder cocaine. Well, I no longer shoot up that black heroin I got the monkey off my back, No longer do I have the pain. (Chorus) I'm gonna let my light shine Every night and everyday. So that my old friends can know That theirs a better way. (Chorus)
