Story behind the song
Years ago I played in a band called "Nothing" with a drummer named Buster Spinner (real name Wardell Rochester). He came up with the words "Come down from Heaven, Lord, You've got to help me make a stand", and told me I could use the phrase in a song if I wanted to. So I did. But that plaintiff plea is not the real story of this song if you check it out. Anyway, I'm now a devout atheist, so I no longer believe in divine intervention, for good or bad. Spells I'm not so sure about...
Lyrics
I woke up this morning, had the Blues all through my head-- I woke up this morning, wishing I was dead! Come down from heaven. Lord-- You've got to help me make a stand Today! Today! I believe I'll go rest my head Right in between the sheets-- I believe that someone has Cast a spell on me! Come down from heaven, Lord-- You've got to help me make a stand Today! Today! I believe I'll head for the forest, I've got to Sit beneath the trees-- I have rested my head On Nature's mellow weed. It took me to heaven today, Just to help me make a stand, Today!Today! I said Lord, Lord Oh, Lord Oh, Lord, You gave us herb To help us make a stand-- Lord, Lord Oh, Lord!
