Story behind the song
most of my music starts as a chord pattern that inspires me to sit and struggle with lyrics. how the lyrics come about is a total mystery to me. this song is about the tragedy of abusive relationships and the blind eye many people have for them.
Lyrics
Whiskey Hill Road jim burgan ©8/31/2005 1. i read it in the evenin papers i read how it all went down little ginnie barton ran her car off whiskey hill road not sure how she done it how she lost control but she was going to fast on the long hard curve when she drove off whiskey hill road there's a little boy who'll miss his momma heard about a baby that won't be born but the last i heard her talkin it was downtown just last week she said there won't be no more beatins she wasn't takin anymore grief 2. billy was a good looker and ginny loved him so that's why when he asked her she moved up whiskey hill road now when they first got started they seemed like heavens match they had a little boy billy was toeing the line up on whiskey hill road then he started hittin the bottle started runnin with them boys uptown then one day at the market ginny's in town for some milk with an eye black as coal she said she fell up on whiskey hill road 3. (solo) (solo) i guess we saw it comin an ending this whole town wrote now ginnie's in the evenin papers and billie's in an uptown bar and their little boy's all by himself up on whiskey hill road 4. yea i read it in the papers heard it on the evenin news little ginnie barton ran her car off whiskey hill road ginny's gone on to meet her maker and ginny's momma she took boy and in the bars downtown billy's makin the rounds tryin to drown out whiskey hill road if hindsight was worth something maybe ginny she'd still be safe but we closed our eyes when she need us only half listened to she said should've give her a hand and helped her down down from whiskey hill road little ginnie barton ran her car off whiskey hill road as you travel along I90 to Buffalo, NY the names of the roads are on a sign on each bridge. whiskey hill road stuck with me and one day a chord pattern i was working on lead to these lyrics.
