An innocent lament about getting through life okay.
It's just me.
like an experimental television commercial for the darker side of whimsy.
Story behind the song
I wrote this in Madison, Wisconsin. It's little pieces and allusions of various things. The firt verse was taken from a painting I made.
Accorn With Wings graciously provided the violin for this track.
Lyrics
Said I to Mr. Sun, “Hey watchy doin’ in my window,
“Peakin’ through my spent venitian blinds?”
“Just shinin’,” said he
Because the morning’s come, the day is on
And all my dreams already gone
And I’m celebrating
Because I’m moving on….
Said I to Mr. Sun, “I’m glad you’re shinin’.
“Sometimes it’s the only thing that keeps me goin'.”
“No worries,” said he.
And as I walked away with all the others there to share the day
And everyone I have and haven’t known
Reminding me I’m not alone…
Said Mr. Sun to me, “Hey who’s that hiding in the trees,
“Amongst the shadows of the leaves,
“In the darkness I can’t see?”
But I just sat there, thinking,
Smiling at the sky and humming quietly
And pondered whatsoever would my answer rightly be.
Hold me.
Show me.
Don’t you know me?
Said I to Mr. Sun, “Hey where’d you go to!?
“hey I need you!
“You’re my favorite one!
“Please don’t be shy and hide behind a cloud!”
And though I couldn’t see, I do recall, I do believe he said to me
From afar a secret that’s too sacred to be told aloud
Time after time after time it’s time after time
Day after day after day and nite after nite
I’m afraid I’ll go in circles
But Mr. Sun this me:
“Hey, can’t you see?
“It’s just another way.
“It’s just another day.”
Said I to Mr. Sun, “How do you keep your disposition
“With demandings on your energies when time is ripe for day?”
But Mr. Sun just stood there shining in the sky and kind of smiling
He had eaten up my questions and had nothing left to say.
