Balsa Club was founded in the late 70's by guitarist and lead singer Jack McKinnon and percussionist Harold Brohifney. The two musicians created a genere-bending sound that intranced millions around the globe. For over 25 years Jack and Harold rocked together, building a huge fan base (especially overseas in Europe, where they were played regularly by small local radio stations). The bands' dreams of ever releasing a full lenghth studio album were toppled when early in 2001 Jack met his fate. He was killed in a freak accident involving several utensils. With an accumulation of over 250 songs surmassed in Balsa Clubs' 25 years together, we honor Jack by releasing these recordings to the general public. One at a time. Lyrics
GOLDEN LIGHTNING BOLT (OF DESTINY)

words and music by Balsa Club
guitars, base, chorus - Jack McKinnon
percussion and lead vocals - Harold Brohifney

VERSE 1

Takin' my chances, and doing things my way, were things that I never did.
It's always so easy, let life go were it takes you, ending up wherever you will.
One day my Daddy told me, a story bout a man, who tried to make his own way.
He struggled and struggled, and tried and he tried, till he found out that there's only one way.

CHORUS-

Your destiny is unchangeable, no matter what they say.
Golden Lightning bolts (of destiny) will zap your dreams away.

VERSE 2

I'd had enough, it was time to do something, I had to challenge my fate.
So late in the night, I grabbed a few things, I was gonna leave this town tonight.
I ran away sneaky, I ran away quiet, it looked like I had luck on my side!
Just as soon as I thought, that I had got away cleanly, I was in for a nasty surprise.

CHORUS-

The paths are already chosen, no room is left to play.
Golden Lightning bolts (of destiny) will zap your dreams away.

VERSE 3

Right on my tail, for the entire time, was that demon that some call fate.
No matter where I ran to, or tried to hide, it was there to try keep my path straight.
I begged and I pleaded, I cried and I cried, to please let me choose my own way.
But your fate is a bastard, a thing with no feelings, something you just can't earase.

CHORUS-

Man- C'mon now, Destiny. Why you gotta be so cruel?

Destiny- Your place is not to judge, little man. Play it straight and good things are bound to come your way.

Man- But I can't sit back and take this ride called fate without some kind of intervention!

Destiny- Be forewarned. If you try and change the hand life delt to you, you will end in certain disaster.

Man- Than that is a risk I will have to take! From now on, I am going to be the chairman of my own destiny!

Destiny- Golden Lightning bolts (of destiny) will zap your dreams away!)
