Story behind the song
When I looked into his eyes and saw that the light which used to be there when he looked at me was gone, I wrote this song. It is the essence of raw emotion, when you don't want to let go but question whether staying together is fair to the one you love. As I sat down at my piano, the beginning portion just came to me while I was remembering the way he used to look at me. Musically and lyrically, my emotions are captured in this piece, much like a snapshot taken at sunset. The lyrics and melody just poured out while I was playing and this is the end result. Vocally, the melodic phrasing is inspired by my hero, Ray Alder from Fates Warning. The recording process took about an hour and a half, with the vocals being done in 2 takes and the piano in one.
