Story behind the song
I guess I was in a story telling mood when I wrote this.
Lyrics
This is a song about Jack. Jack was a boy of 17 years who lived with his mother Charlene and his mother's boyfriend Walter in Kentucky. Jack's pop died shortly after he was born...or at least that's what his mother tells him. The truth is, Jack's father packed his bags when he found out that Charlene was preggers. As Jack grew up, his mother worked the nightshift at the local hospital and part time at the grocery store during the day just to pay rent. Jack's mother began seeing her slow-witted boss, Walter from the grocery store. Shortly afte, they moved into Walter's trailer but Walter wasn't happy that Jack was moving in too. Over the next few weeks Jack's mother became concerned about the bruises and cuts all over Jack's body. Walter's stupidity was not his only fault. His quick temper and abusive nature left Jack defenseless. Chorus When you feel like youre all alone I just want to say hold your head high and look around and you will be ok Jack be nimble and Jack be quick Jack looked back on it all He saw it from his point of view and couldn't see past the wall No one remembered Jack's 18th birthday. He was home alone and began looking through his mother's storage trunk. Towards the bottom, he found an old photograph of a man of 30 years. Just then, Walter returned from the local bar in a drunken stupor to find jackd staring at the photograph. He grabbed it from Jack's hands and ripped it up and cracked Jack in the back of the head only to say "Your pop was a no-good, two-timing, son-of-a bitch just like you." And with that, the built up frustration of 18 years erupted in the form of a gun shot that pierced Walter's heart. Jack was sentenced to the death row by a condescending jury and a bitter judge. As Jack sat in the electric chair awaiting the last moments, he took a final look at the world only to freeze as he locked eyes with the man pulling the lever. It was the man from the photograph. Just then Jack began to scream but it was too late. Chorus
