I wrote this song while visiting Nashville for a music seminar, the main part of the song only took me two days to write, but took four months to find the last two verses to complete it. This is only a rough cut.
My main genre is Celtic but I play everything from country to gospel. I have been preforming for over 20 years with different bands and a few of my own. Current

Story behind the song
While taking a walk along a small river, I was looking at the toy that were washed up on the shore after a few days of rain. On the way back I noticed the footprints in the sand that I had made. That is what inspired me for this song.
Lyrics
AFTER THE RAIN WENT FOR A WALK DOWN BY THE RIVER, ON A DREARY AFTERNOON LISTENING TO THE WATER ROLLING BY ME, STARTED HUMMING A LITTLE TUNE TWO PAIR OF SHOES CAUGHT MY ATTENTION, WITH TOYS SCATTERED ROUND A TINY SET OF FOOTPRINTS, HEELS DEEPLY ROOTED IN THE GROUND (CHORUS) CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE TIME PASSING BY CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE SIFTING MEMORIES LEFT BEHIND NODDING DOWN AT THE SHOE PRINTS, IMBEDDED IN THE SAND HAD PICTURED LITTLE JOHNNY, HOLDING ONTO DADDY'S HAND (CHORUS) CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE TIME PASSING BY CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE SIFTING MEMORIES LEFT BEHIND SO I WALKED WITH THEM AWHILE DOWN TO THE RIVERS EDGE THEY DISAPPEARED INTO THE WATER AND THIS IS WHAT I SAID (CHORUS) CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE TIME PASSING BY CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE SIFTING MEMORIES LEFT BEHIND SO AFTER THE FALLING RAIN AND THE SUN BEGINS TO SHINE THE FOOTPRINTS WILL BE GONE BUT THE MEMORY LEFT BEHIND OH I THINK ABOUT THOSE TOYS THAT WERE LYING ON THE GROUND AND ANOTHER LITTLE BOY SAYING DADDY LOOK WHAT I FOUND (CHORUS) CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE TIME PASSING BY CHILDREN'S TOYS AND FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND, LIKE SIFTING MEMORIES OF DAYS GONE BY (2x)
