No hype. No bullshit. (Well, SOME bullshit, but no hype): Words and music by Jim Parker.
I've been called a lot of things since I first climbed onto a stage with a guitar in my hands and butterflies in my stomach, but the one word that seems to fit best (and miss the mark least) is this one: songwriter. In fact, that's the one I use to describe myself as a performer, too -- especially after I hit a sour note in a vocal or blow a guitar lick, or otherwise need to extricate my ego from my performance in front of an audience. Whenever that happens, I just shrug it off as best I can, and remind anyone who needs reminding of the truest musical fact about me that I know: "I'm not a musician. I'm a songwriter."

Lyrics
when i first met you, i thought i was looking for fun. it could have come from anywhere. and been with anyone. i didn't know what i was looking for. i only knew what i was running from. i thought anybody could save me from feeling so numb. but when i looked into your eyes, i caught a glimpse of the disguise you've always worn for everyone but me. and what i saw came as some surprise, because in the deepest corners of your eyes, i saw forever and i felt eternity. you didn't have to be beautiful. you didn't have to be kind. you didn't have to be perfect. but i don't mind. you didn't have to be the one i'd love. i was only looking for a little bump and shove. i was living life one love at a time. you could have been anyone. anyone would've done. you could've gone your own way. it still would've been fine. yes, you could've been anyone at all. and we still mighta had a crazy ball. you could have been anyone, but you became mine. you could have told me you had to go visit a sick friend in new mexico. you could have lied, i'd have believed you. what else could i do? you could've said you were with someone else. but you accepted me for myself. you could have been anyone, but you were you. yes, you could've been some other way and I might've still been satisfied. but then you wouldn't be you, and i'd still be lost inside. and in a world of day and night, of hard and soft, and black and white, i made a wish with all my might that you'd stay. and in this world of ups and downs, of ins and outs and smiles and frowns, i still wouldn't have it any other way. 'cause in this world of slash and burn, you take my breath away when you turn to teach me something so simple i've learned is so true. and in a world of do or die, loving you can still make me cry. you could have been anyone, but you were you. you could have been anyone, but you were you.
