This is a song I wrote for my son using a twist on a popular phrase.
. receive all glory, honor, and praise!
Story behind the song
I like to play with phrases and turn them around to mean something else. This is an example. It reminds me when he was a small child and always brings a smile to my face.
Lyrics
SHOOTING STARS by Jeff Leslie 6/2/97 - 8/15/98
One lazy Sunday evening as I watched the setting sun
The sky turned black as ebony preparing for some fun
Then diamonds filled the canvas on the dark side of the moon
Each one an easy target on a summer night in June
My lap became a saddle a young cowboy climbed upon
Then he slowly raised the barrel of his Western Ranger gun
He sat so still I thought I heard the beating of his heart
Two fingers pulled the trigger and he started shooting stars
Shooting stars, shooting stars
From the edge of the universe
To Mercury and Mars
Shooting stars, shooting stars
He loves to play beneath the Milky Way
Shooting stars
Now and then that sparkling sky will help him with his quest
That is when the ranger thinks his aim is at its best
His gun will pop, a star will fall and sink into the west
And his face will shine, that boy of mine will beam with happiness
Shooting stars, shooting stars
From the edge of the universe
To Mercury and Mars
Shooting stars, shooting stars
He loves to play beneath the Milky Way
Shooting stars
Every night I pray for him that a star will gently fall
When we spend this time together, its the greatest thrill of all.
Shooting stars, shooting stars
From the edge of the universe
To Mercury and Mars
Shooting stars, shooting stars
He loves to play beneath the Milky Way
