Story behind the song
Oddly enough, I was inspired by a Tom T Hall song called The Carrol County Accident.
Lyrics
Another day the birds are singing songs of love while far away he sees her coming through the fields as if it were just yesterday they climbed the trees and touched the sky but he remembers most of all she played the violin for him down by the garden wall. The mists are moving 'cross the fields it's Margaree the early years now how were they to ever know what secret they would come to share they crossed their hearts and carved their names upon a silver birch that day that grew so strong, so straight and tall down by the garden wall. And all around his garden wall flowers grow and petals fall he watches as the world unfolds as flowers come and flowers go he dreams of children free of sin seeks comfort in that violin he learned to play when he was small down by the garden wall. Another night the moon is sleeping far away upon the hill he hears her calling from the fields to his bedroom window sill and with all his listening might he hears her spirit fly and fall deep in love like long ago down by the garden wall. And all around his garden wall flowers grow and petals fall he watches as the world unfolds as flowers come and flowers go he dreams of children free of sin seeks comfort in that violin he learned to play when he was small down by the garden wall. Now, he leaves his bedroom for the stairs and through the field to meet her there where violins and petals fall down by the garden wall.
