Story behind the song
My brother wrote this song about coming out of one's shell placed upon us from past experiences and stepping out into the unknown, getting past intrepidation and fear
Lyrics
Everything that I want, everything that I need, is shielded from the sun in the meadow. With the fears from the past, my future has been cast and has been imprisoned by the shadows. Although it may be night and I may be filled with fright, I have to leave the shelter of my window. Step into the rain, set aside all pain, and find sunlight to take away the shadows. Now I ain't gonna cry no more. I ain't gonna wait. Shadows are a game that I no longer play. I ain't gonna hurt no more. I ain't gonna stay the same. Shadows are a thing that only remains when the sun goes to sleep. In my terror I step out, clouded by a wall of doubt. Slowly I approach the terrifying meadow. What a monster it must be, to have such control over me. What is causing such a tremendous shadow? I want to turn and run. But No! The deed must be done. But why does it have to be so close to my window? What a strange surprize. I can't believe my eyes. When I see what it is that has caused the shadows. Now I ain't gonna cry no more. I ain't gonna wait. Shadows are a game that I no longer play. I ain't gonna hurt no more. I ain't gonna stay the same. Shadows are a thing that only remains when the sun goes to sleep. There's a little tiny box covered with a rusted lock. I break the lock and stare at the box in the meadow. In amidst the rust is nothing but aging dust, and a wind comes up and blows away the shadows. As the dust disappears, so do all of the fears, and then the sky is blue and there is sunlight in my meadow. Ain't it funny how the past will try to make a trick last? It's over now, it disappeared with the shadows. Now I ain't gonna cry no more. I ain't gonna wait. Shadows are a game that I no longer play. I ain't gonna hurt no more. I ain't gonna stay the same. Shadows are a thing that only remains when the sun goes to sleep.
