Story behind the song
A good friend died tragically in a car accident, not like this, but it inspired me to write a song that captured the emotions and experieinces that most of us have sadly had when a close friend or family member dies needlessly.
Lyrics
One more time around the block ©Luigi and Tracy Cappel 2006 1 Am It thundered down the road like a young boy racers dream Dm Am The Rockford Fosgate sub beat like a life support machine Am They never saw what hit them, on the wrong side of the bend Dm Am They didn’t have an inkling that their lives were going to end. D Am The mourners stood in silence, dressed in dark clothes, mostly black D Am A mother screamed her lungs out, cried “I want my baby back!” D Am Their friends stood round in circles still not coping from the shock Am They said they’d be five minutes, one more time around the block. Am They were the best of friends like they were tied at the seam Dm Am They knew what each was thinking and they shared the same big dreams Am They were just young men in the prime of their life Dm Am Their futures lay before them, empty pages still to write D Am But now those days are over and their lives have been snuffed out D Am The sub’s no longer thumping and their hearts have lost their clout D Am If only they had listened, if only they had stopped Am They said they’d be five minutes, one more time around the block Bridge G And now the music’s playing ……………………………….. Amaj Dmaj And the mourners begin to pray G D C G D Am They sing The Lord’s Prayer and ask themselves why did it end this way? D Am The V8’s sound like thunder, can’t you hear the engines roar? D Am Car horns sound a last salute with feet flat to the floor D Am Wish we could have changed the outcome; wish we could have stopped the clock Am They said they’d be five minutes, one more time around the block Am They said they’d be five minutes, one more time around the block
