Lyrics
There’s a lot of talk on this, the 1-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the storm of the century, which devastated the Gulf coast, subsequently burying all but 20% of New Orleans. The verbal blame lies squarely on FEMA, the branch of government under Homeland Security that makes Firearms seem logical under the umbrella of the ATF. The finger pointing begins with the Bush Administration, and while that would bring more than simple glee to this jaded voice, it also happens to be wrong—misappropriated, if you will. Because as the Wall Street Journal points out today, The Administration has in fact bankrolled $66 billion dollars MORE than 9/11, Hurricane Andrew, the L.A. Quakes AND all of 2004 Hurricanes COMBINED! All to the tune of $122 Billion dollars. So, then WHO IS to blame: [audio] Not New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, who perjured himself when it was revealed that his Rebuilding Plans were directly lifted from beloved children’s story Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory; and NOT chief executive of the State, whose surname might reveal just exactly what is going on one year later….enter Gov Kathleen Blanco [audi] whatever. While many victims in Misissippi and Alabama have begun to receive their checks last month, Louisianans still haven’t seen a penny. Well why not ??! Ask Governor Whitey, who’s only plan has been hampered by the semantics of Who What Where When & How. Not much of plan. Or is it? When numbers is the name of the game in Congress, here are some courtesy of the Brookings Institute; Number of residents who have applied for Federal grants to rebuild: 100,000. Number of residents who have received such grants: 0 Percentage point decrease in the proportion of impoverished residents: 5 Increase in the median household income: 9 Percentage point increase in the proportion of white residents: 14 Percentage point decrease in the proportion of black residents: 17 …I dunno, everything seems to going along Just As Planned.
