I'm a young contemporary Christian music leader/songwriter and church leader (I'm an ordained minister in the Church of England). My passion is to see Christ known. For everybody who knows me, having anything to do with the internet is a miracle (it takes me weeks to read my e-mails!). Im 32 and I was brought up in Manchester, knowing about God but never knowing God within my life. After a very difficult teenage period and getting into a lot of trouble I somehow found myself passing my exams and getting to university. Amazingly for some I actually came away from uni with a degree, and my wife and I went to live and work in Hertfordshire. Whilst there I was challenged by God on an Alpha course and I met Jesus as my Saviour. We worshipped at St. Andrews Chorleywood where I found great strength in knowing that Jesus is real in my life. After a number of years I found myself being called into the ordained ministry and in 2003 I was ordained into the Church of England (how this has happened Im yet to understand!). As well as serving in my local church Ive continued to lead worship at a number of different events and have led the music and teaching for church away days/weekends in various churches across the UK. I have been writing for a number of years and have a large folder of songs that have been an outpouring of my love for God. Ive never found the push to be pro-active with sending my material away, however recently I was very surprised to hear that my songs have been taken by others and used in Africa, Spain France and Jamaica as well as a number of churches across the UK. This led to a friend of mine setting this link up but with funds being tight I can only afford the free download (I hope you like it). My song writing always seems to be very basic but hopefully it represents part of a journey with God - a journey on which I have always sought to keep the Cross and the Resurrection central in my life.

Story behind the song
‘As I draw close to you’ developed during a time of ministry at my local church. I was leading the music and I felt God calling to me to draw closer to him. The cross has always been central in my journey with God. We have a beautiful cross suspended within our church that is lit up by spotlights and physically lifting my eyes towards the cross made me feel a deep sense of pain. I pictured those stood around the cross 2000 years ago watching Jesus hang there for us. Hebrews 12:1- 3 resonates with me and through this song I was drawn to reflect upon the fact that as we run a race with Christ, our ultimate goal is to be reconciled with him. As we throw off the hindrances of the world we are free to run to Christ, yet this can sometimes be harder than we realise. I had a longing to leave my guitar and run towards the communion rail where all I wanted to do was throw myself down in surrender, but I was physically unable to do so. I just had to stand in awe of God captured by his love for me, staring at this open cross with my eyes fixed upon Jesus. Although physically committed to stay with the music team, spiritually I ran towards Jesus and surrendered myself, falling down before him.
Lyrics
Verse 1: As I draw close to you, See the pain of the cross. The nails that held you there, Nails of love for us. Pre-chorus: And as I look towards the cross, I’ll surrender all to you. Chorus: I will run to you, come to you, Fall before your throne. I will run to you, come to you, Fall before your throne. Verse 2: I stand in awe of you, Captured by your love. My heart will overflow, With praise for your name.
