A song about discipleship... staying faithful on the road to Zion, while avoiding the pitfalls laid by the devil (who is sometimes pictured as a roaring lion.) It can be a struggle, but grace will lead us home.

Contemporary Christian Music from 1976.
Way back in the Mid 1970's, before 'Contemporary Christian' was even a genre, a group of folk in Merseyside, UK, were exploring how playing the music they liked fitted in with the things they believed. Amongst them were a band called Celebration, who never made an album, played a few concerts (Mostly in 1977.. but the very first in 1976.. hence the name "Celebration - 1976 - revisited") and then went their different ways. Band Members (at various times) included Tim Rawe, Paul and Dave Maylor, Alison Battey, Yvonne Bridge, Paul Winn, Kevin Mercer, Eli, Chris Knowles, Graham Marshall, Rob Fisher and myself Adrian. Don't expect much in the way of recording quality here... it's rough and ready, recorded on the fly and is was it is... great memories of times gone by. As said at the start... this stuff dates back to the mid-1970's. I was a new Christian, 19 years old, not sure where life was heading or even how who I was fitted in with being part of a church community. I remember there were those who told me that Christian Rock music would never catch on and I should pursue other musical directions. These days Contemporary Christian music outsells many other genres. Sure hope you enjoy these blasts from the past!

Story behind the song
Zion is a symbol of God's triumphant Kingdom. The Devil is sometimes pictured as a roaring lion who seeks to devour our faith. Chhristian life is not a walk in the park. It can be a battle. And proverbs instruct us to pay atention to divine wisdom as we make our pilgrimage.
Lyrics
Destination Zion Adrian J Pratt 1974 Nowadays when I close up my eyes I see quite a different light Shades of darkness, a hazy vision, Semblance of the night. I see I'm a servant for a reason, I don't like fumbling in the dark And I mustn't tempt the serpent with treason Its bite is worse than its bark And I wonder... Is your destination Zion Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Last generation, will you wander? Ruight along I was searching But never realyy wanted to find I saw right out over the fields And then tried to climb under the stile But I wonder... Is your destination Zion Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Last generation, will you wander? Nobody ever said it was going to be easy You're lucky if you're chosen Not everybody can know Understand, I offer no condolence Struggle, wrestle, be active Keep fighting, struggling, wrestling to the end But if you can then... Hear how wisdom lifts her voice And understanding cries out She stands at the crossroads And calls out aloud Oh, undererstand you simple fool What it is to be shrewd Listen you will have plain speech from me For I only speak the truth But I wonder... Is your destination Zion Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Is your destination Zion (mm hmm) Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Is your destination Zion (one more time) Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Last generation, will you wander? (Instrumental) Woo! Is your destination Zion (Zion Zion Zion) Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Is your destination Zion (Zion Zion Zion) Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Is your destination Zion (Zion Zion Zion) Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Is your destination Zion (Zion Zion Zion) Or will you put your head Into the mouth of the lion Last generation, will you wander?
