Lyrics
Hey Joe, where the hell ya goin' to? Don't tell me you had it up to here, boy. I heard that story so many times, I'm gettin' tired of the tears that we keep cryin'. I never once believed that the ways of the world were half as hard as they say. My Maw told me long time ago, it all comes clean about every second wash day, I don't know what keeps the loyal from denyin', searchin' for relief for a towel for their cryin'. These tears fall while we march right along with a dream that we've always held like water in a patriot well. Hey Sue, hear ya got some plans laid. Don't look now but I think ya missed the last train. I know you're hearts hurtin' inside but don't let it keep you from holdin' up your head high. We all crave a piece of heaven. No matter what you got you feel you gotta get better. Some mountains touch sky. No matter how hard you work you'll still never climb it's true love when it lasts so long you feel you never left home even when you're gone. Those tears fall while we march right along with a dream that we've always held like water in a patriot well. You keep sayin' that there's gonna come a day but while the bills keep rollin' in your smile line sags from cold nights and tell-tale signs. See them from the back porch hangin' on the clothes line? Rain falls on a sea side town. The rugs been pulled, the fish plant shut down. Joe says it's gotta be the last straw. Sue disagrees, she doesn' t plan to give up now. Try'n to keep a normal life in order, the family in food and hot running water doesn't seem to be such a task but a welfare cheque hardly ever lasts from day one until you finally decide between what you love most and running for your life. Those tears fall while we march right along with a dream that we've always held like water in a patriot well. Now some day you might well look back and just like my Maw say, it wasn't that bad but tears fall while we march right along with a promise that we've always held, like water in a patriot well.
