Story behind the song
david - copy machine is dustin's song, he wrote it, so he has more say in it than i do, i think it's a rocker personally, the whole reggae breakdown thing makes me want to shake my ass... there's a very strange transition in the middle of the song between the first chorus and second verse that we've fixed since we recorded this, i'll make sure we record a new version of this as practice and i'll put up here
Ryan ~ the grooves in this song are sweet and worthy of my man juice. ummmm does the bass go to long at the begining for anyone else? needs more emotion.
Dustin-I didn't know what I was doind when I wrote this song. I'm surprised it came out as good as it did. It has really cool individual parts, but it has serios consitancy problems. I like the lyrics, but they lack direction(you guy's are going to have to help me on that on).
Anthony - First off, I'll try to make a demo of my ideas, but Im not sure if I'll have any time for a while. So theres a reason why I'm starting with this song. It's the first one that really grabbed me. So... let's break it down.
I like the intro, but lets get rid of everything from 0:19 to 0:29. Its scary, the bass line makes me think of big scary clowns, no good. Replace those 10 seconds with a couple of those fills like in 1:04 to 1:07. The prechorus (or whatever you call it at 0:55) could easily be removed, and the song would flow just fine from the verse into the chorus. If lyrically it's too crucial to the song, then Ryan needs to change the drum beat, cuz it really does nothing. Like open up the hi hat, or just do a normal beat. from 1:27 to 1:32 needs to die. i dig the ska break down "some will ask the questions..." not sure if i like how the rest of the guys come in, or if i'd prefer a snare roll build up kinda thing. Like, where the rest of the band normally comes in after the solo guitar, start a build up, and build up all the way until "honest truth!!" then go right into the part at 3:05. everything else makes sense, except for the ending. I'm sure if you end it with my favorite little fill it'll be just fine. Hope this all makes sense.
Lyrics
all tendencies falling down take what you want not what you need
fall in line don’t disturb the water don’t feel differently then i
circle around move in pushing the mentality now watch how they spin
untruth's pulled one by one down if we’re just a great resistance then
why do i feel down? gather around warmth escape encroaching cold
we’re by ourselves in a vast outside world starving for food yet with hearts
full of gold drift off to sleep and slip into the mold so we’ll ask the questions
try to find some meaning in this life for you base life on the answer that everything
that the tv says is an honest truth stand alone don’t lose control don’t sell your
soul before you stand up tall sing your song show your strong abilities and prove
everyone wrong dreams untold fears unfold dodge the falling debris and resign
from your role
